In her funky Alan Ferguson-directed clip for “Q.U.E.E.N.”, hipster artist Janelle Monae teams with Erykah Badu aka Badoula Oblongata where the two star as a museum exhibit comes to life.
Instead of her predictable black-and-white tuxedo, Janelle throws on some Givenchy heels and shows off her shapely figure while claiming her QUEEN-status. She talked to Rap-Up about working with Erykah and revealed their close friendship.
“I just love her. We call each other twins. I talk to her on the phone at least three or four times a week. It was really inspired by our private conversation, dialogue that she and I have and continue to have. … She’s a strong woman, she’s an electric lady, she’s somebody that I look up to.”
“Q.U.E.E.N” will appear on Janelle’s album The Electric Lady, dropping this summer.

Fall Out Boy // My Songs Know What You Did In The Dark (Light Em Up)
Oh wow. Fall Out Boy. When was the last time you put out a song? I actually like this. Okay w/e reblogging some Fall Out Boy.
Ke$ha ft. Nigel Thornberry | Blarghgh Blarghgh Blarghgh
this is how I spent my evening
Just because this part of Holy Motors was fabulous.
so I came to the realization the other day that I’m from the south and I’ve never written a song about a preacher or a member of a preacher’s family what the fuck is wrong with me
so then this happened
count the short story references heyyyy
A small town preacher, he’d had a boy
A hollow kid, never knew the joy
Of God, or all of Kingdom Come
Said the world had cursed him as the preacher’s sonThe boy shed his skin and became a man
Licked his wounds and made a plan
To steal a girl right from her daddy’s hand
And marry her off in a distant landNow, the girl he chose was Jenny Lou
He stole her heart, but her daddy knew
That he tears you down with trouble and booze
And he stuffs his boots like the Devil’s shoesOne night, the preacher’s son come round
Jenny packed her bags, and they left that town
But she was real afraid of what her daddy’d do
she said, “He’ll track us down, and he’ll kill you, too.”He said, “Don’t worry, honey, I’ve got a gun,”
And his pistol gleamed in the summer sun,
“I’m a bulls-eye shot, girl, second to none.”
So she ran away with the preacher’s sonNow it seems that Jenny’s fears were right
Cause her daddy caught them both late one night
But the preacher’s son just grabbed her tight
And held her in front with all his mightHe yelled, “Don’t make a move, or you’ll be seein’ red!”
But her daddy stumbled on, filled with dread
So he put his pistol right up to her head
Pulled the trigger, and shot her dead.
This is wonderful! Damn girl, your song writing is fine!
Seriously though, the beat is great. And as someone who is a sucker for lyrics, I really love the entire story that you have crafted.
